Cuff Links, Zookeeper and plates
![]() |
Cuff links from 1955, GA252, TS Tyre, Ltd. 5th set in my collection and very pretty. They cost 6d when they were originally sold. |
Got these plates because of their bar scenes not so much for the Guinness connection albeit they the design is listed in the Guinness Collectors Guide on mugs. They are from the 3's I think and are made by Crown Ducal in England.
Another lovely Guinness Carlton Ware water jug from the early sixties. |
At last the 'Chased' Zoo Keeper - took me 5 years to get this in one piece - worth the wait and came complete with box and certificate. |

New acquisitions.
I am over the moon! I just got another Guinness handbook from 1948, GA369C (I also have 369, 369A. B and D). But this is not the reason for my happiness. When I opened it up low and behold there was a letter inside of it. See photo, poor q...uality but this is what is so good. It is dated October 1951 and is addressed to a Mr. Gries, It states that Guinness has great pleasure in sending him a copy of their illustrated booklet. It goes on to say that we are delighted to hear from our friends in America and especially glad to welcome them to Dublin. It goes on to talk about Guinness, the suggestions made by Guinness in their advertisements of adding Guinness stout to your beer - yes adding Guinness to their beer!!!! It ends by stating that Guinness straight is better because that is the way it is drunk in Ireland. It is signed by Arthur Hughes the MD of Guinness at the time.
What a fantastic find!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! See More |
Well, due to the poor quality of the picture and, what I consider to be, interesting content, I copy below the text contained within. Sorry, but once an anorak always a anorak and, the smallest of things as they say! "Dear Mr. Gries, As requested we have great pleasure in sending you a copy of our illustrated booklet which tells the story of Guinness, and we hope you will enjoy reading about our world-famous Brewery at St. James's Gate. We are always delighted to hear from our friends in America and are especially glad to welcome those who come to Dublin. We hope that if you are contemplating a visit to Ireland you will come to the Brewery and let us show you round, and we should be glad if you would tell your friends also to come and see us when they visit Ireland. But you do not have to come all the way to Dublin to taste the famous Guinness Stout because, as you no doubt know, we are now brewing at Long Island City to the age-old Irish formula that has made Guinness so deservedly popular throughout the world. If you have not already adopted the suggestion in our advertisements of adding Guinness Stout to your beer, we hope you will lose no time in doing so - and what a treat there is in store for you! Even better, of course, is a glass of Guinness straight, as it is drunk here in Ireland, but don't forget, whichever way you choose, it is the same Guinness Stout that has been going strong since 1759. With very best wishes, Yours faithfully, p. pro. ARTHUR GUINNESS, SON & CO., LIMITED. signed A. H Hughes, Managing Director." |
Modern but nice - a lovely little dish (ramekin) for crème brulee, onion soup or some other such delights. More stuff en route so keep checking in!!!!! |
